Portfolio - Other/Historical Projects
Over the years Firecast have worked on all types of projects for all kinds of companies as well as local authorities, not for profit organisations and educational bodies. Here's a few examples:
Your Beauty Assistant
This site was great fun to work on. The customer wanted a website that provides up-to-date industry news to the beauty industry. Graphic designs were supplied and from these we put in place a custom built CMS allowing the customer to maintain content across the whole site, manage user accounts, subscriptions and advertising.
We found this a lovely project to work on. A website used by a local community based in Lawrence Hill in Bristol. Aimed at their local users the site had to offer a variety of ways for people to engage and view the site. In practice we did this by using a number of techniques to improve the sites usability as well as linking in multiple languages for each page. We were asked to develop a custom built CMS that would provide a flexible way of maintaining the site content without compromising the client's accessibility requirements.
The customer required a lot of detail being paid to their WAI compliance, to offer a fully accessible website meeting at least AA standards. Font-resizing options, multiple style sheets and mark-up to enable visitors to customise the display to suit their needs. A 'Progressive Enhancement' approach was used so the site would work for the most users possible across all major browsers.
An ambitious project, seeking to enhance the social networking aspects of sites like Facebook.com and MySpace.com, whilst adding in the kind of job search abilities that you would expect of sites like Monster.com; the result was a totally unique product.
Using a custom built social networking framework we built a system that allows for university and college graduates to create profiles, find people in their own university that have already joined, search for friends, create social networks around groups and events as well as being able to search for, share and apply for jobs. Additionally employers can create profiles, advertise jobs, receive job applications, view candidates' CVs and send messages to candidates directly.
The Art Crowd
An unusual site which required a totally customised way of selecting and buying products. Selling digital artwork, the customer has the option to select the size of the piece, whether it's framed, comes in a diptych or triptych, each of which caries a pricing variation. Also incorporated a small preview screen so that the customer can see how these changes affect the look of the piece, and even choose the colour of their walls!
Augentius Fund Administration LLP
As a very successful fund management company, the client was keen to re-develop their website to reflect their growing global brand. Working with their outsourced design team we were responsible for developing a CMS to meet the client's needs, providing them with the core functionality to create and publish pages to the website. A major part of this was the creation of a publishing system so that changes to content are passed along an approved process. Changes are initially made by copyrighters who choose a nominated administrator to approve those changes. An email is then sent to the administrator making them aware of this request. The administrator is then free to approve, amend or decline the given change. This ensures that all communications via their website are applied via the companies existing corporate structure.
We also set up a multinational contact form. This allows for the contact form for each global location to be tailored so that recipients can be set up for each type of enquiry.
Orchestra of the swan
We put together a totally bespoke system. Using our bolt on framework we added in a customised news system, full site search, faster page loading and an events diary. With a custom CMS to manage lots of pages and news.
Built for a film editing company, the main focus of this site was to create an interactive video gallery that shows videos on the site in a simple and quick way. In order to do this we built a custom jQuery plugin to load in the videos at the click on a button. We also added in a facility to load movies in directly from youtube.
